FOOTBALL
WITH a veteran grid team returning, Coach L. F.. Kibler’s Wilson Presidents had high hopes of regaining the State Title, despite a terrifically hard eleven-game schedule.
As the first three games passed swiftly by, the Presidents seemed to be on their way to another title. Wilson’s old rival, the Maury Commodores, proved to be the downfall of the Presidents, as they rose up and defeated the Wilsonites in their first encounter in several years. With this game still lingering in their memory, the Presidents seemed to have lost their spirit and determination and hopes of the State Title disappeared.
As the season drew to a close, the Presidents suddenly came back to life, their fight and determination returned and they became unbeatable. Little hope was held for a victory over Ashland High School of Kentucky, who held the mythical high school championship of this country. In the last three minutes of the game, however, the Presidents came through and defeated their opponents, in a thrilling game.
Despite the fact that the record is spotty in places, the “Fighting Presidents” will long be remembered as a squad that struck fear in the hearts of all their opponents.

BASKETBALL
WHEN Wilson started out this season, with four lettermen returning from last year’s squad, the Presidents had a bright outlook for the season.
The Wilsonites dropped their initial game against Newport News and seemed to have lost their spirit along with the contest. After this game, Wilson began to slip: their attack bogged down; there was too much individual playing; the Prexies lost game after game. The mid-term graduation took from Wilson two of its best plavers, Brown and Sorrell. Soon after this took place, Co-Captain Jones was forced to leave the squad, leaving only one veteran, Joe Golombeck. Second-stringers were called on by Coach Kibler, to fill the places of the veterans. Coach Kibler soon learned it was a hard job to whip a squad of subs into a formidable team of Class A calibre.
The team worked hard, but they couldn’t seem to click, so the Prexies continued to lose. When the season ended, it turned out to be one ot the biggest disappointments in Wilson’s basketball history.
With many members of the squad returning, Coach Kibler is looking forward to a better season next year. They may develop into a fine squad. Here's wishing the 1937-38 edition of Wilson basketball squad better luck Than This Year's squad.

TRACK
THE track team was somewhat of an experiment at Woodrow Wilson this season. This is the first tear that Track has been given the right of way, with no interference from any other major sport. 1 he team was greatly handicapped by the location of their practice held, as well as a shortage of veterans returning from last year’s squad.
The squad worked hard, but it was just another track season tor Wilson, as they met with a terrific drubbing in the Triangular Meet against Maury and Hampton.
SCHEDULE AND RESULTS
April 15
Triangular Meet—Wilson vs. Hampton and Maury—Wilson, Hampton, 16½. Maury, 94. This meet proved to be a runaway and the Presidents made a bad showing. Willard Etheridge came in second in the 880 and third in the 440 ; Captain Whitehurst, third in the javelin throw; Hughe, third in
the high hurdles; and Joe Golom-beck tied for third in the shot-put,
brought Wilson their only points.
April 23        Wilson vs. Hopewell.
May    1         Tidewater Meet at Williamsburg.
May    8         Tidewater Meet at Norfolk Division.
May  15         State Meet at Charlottesville.

PLAYERS
TENNIS
WILSON’S Tennis team enjoyed one of its best seasons in the history of this school.
With most all of the players returning from last year’s squad, the Prexies looked forward to an undefeated season.
Practicing daily at the Naval Hospital, the team soon rounded into form.             When the season opened the Prexies got off to a good start by winning over a stubborn Suffolk outfit, but lost their second match to Maury. After this the Presidents came back strong to play spectacular tennis throughout the remainder of the season.
