Cheerleaders 
   The Varsity Cheerleaders are some of our busiest students in school. Not only do they have to maintain a high grade point average, but they also must put in long hours of practice after 
school. They attend the varsity athletic events, including foot-ball, basketball, and wrestling. This year, the Varsity Cheer-leaders placed Third in a competition at Chesapeake Square Mall. The Varsity Cheerleaders are Latitia Elliot (Captain), 
Kim VanRoekel (Co-Captain), Erin Taylor (Co-Captain), Andrea Guy, Cheryl Paige, Jennifer Sanderlin, Lanita Rosenberg, 
Salathiel Harrington, Kandel Howett, and Shaunita Lassiter.  


Kim enjoys the Championship Parade.

  The Junior Varsity Cheerleaders had a very busy year. They attended all Junior Varsity athletic events as well as most of the Varsity events. Members of the J.V. squad are Dorothy Dickman (Co-Captain), Cathy Costello (Co-Captain), Christine Farrell, Chien Hsin Wu, Shamika Hicks, Daphne Riddick, Lisa Jones, Amber Brooks, Reshanna Perrault, Kathryn Thomas, and Meghan Walker. 
  The advisers to the J.V. Cheerleaders are Loretta Soule and Jennifer Chaffin. 
Meghan Walker and Amber Brooks exhibit the spirit that helped rooks exhibit the spirit that helped the squad.

  The Student, Wilson High’s 
school newspaper, for the first time ever, placed in the Trophy Class at the VHSL Publications’ workshop held at Virginia Commonwealth University, October 26-27. The Trophy Class, which exceeds even first place, is the highest category to be achieved by publications in the state of Virginia. 
  Besides placing on the Trophy level, The Student also received the new Colonel Savage Mem-orial Trophy, which was named in 
honor of one of the most  pro-minent figures in the foundation of the VHSL Annual Publications Workshop.
